Teamwork is the process of collaborating and combining ideas to form one single idea. Team members work together to accomplish a common goal. Working in a team can be extremely difficult due to the different personalities, behaviors, experiences, cultures, etc. For this assignment, we were assigned to play the boardgame Pandemic. In this game we worked together to cure the world from 4 diseases that were attacking humanity. The purpose was to save the world, and we had to work together as a team to make this happen. This activity allowed us to understand each other better as individuals, and to engage in teamwork. As a group we all had to cooperate and work together to accomplish a specific task, in this case saving humanity. Conflict arose …show more content…
Communications was one of the key concepts that we worked on. A lot of us were confused, and only one of our members truly understood the game. He was able to clarify questions and this allowed all of us to get the chance to give our input. This confusion allowed all of us to cooperate because we realized that we all had to work as a team to win, rather than actually having to compete against each other. Overall, the game had us applying actual skills in order to solve our conflicts as a team, and to attempt to save the world …show more content…
I was definitely intimidated towards the beginning when our professor was explaining the directions to the class along with describing all the complex rules and regulations. As a team, there was no doubt that we struggled to figure out what exactly our approach to the game was and what our strategy to execute. There was so much information that we needed to retain from reading the directions that it often times lagged the flow of the game. We constantly had to research specific instructions online or watch tutorials that would give us a little more direction. In general, Pandemic was a game that challenged us to work together and find solutions to something that we had absolutely no knowledge of. It forced us to communicate with one another because the game required every member to participate and contribute in some way. I think that it was a great learning experience and because the game put us in a contrasting environment from the classroom, we had the opportunity to bond and connect on a more personal

In the game “Teamwork”, your job was to create a project for history class, but the due date was tomorrow. Your team was already chosen, and you decide that it would be better if you worked independently and then came and put all your research together. Most people think that teamwork means that you can’t work independently, but I don’t think that’s the case. Teamwork is more about being understanding and supportive of each other and communicating ideas and thoughts in between you. I had a similar scenario happen to me in geography class when we were assigned a project that was to be completed in partners.…

The activity where communication was central to the process was the building a bridge activity. Communication was a vital role that really helped/hindered goal attainment during the activity. A brief overview of the building a bridge activity is that as a group, we would use communication to help us build similar halves of a bridge once we divide into two groups within our original group, that are separated by a tarp. Communication helped us achieve the goal of having a similar bridge halves even though there was the obstacle of only being allowed to ask 3 questions to our other group during the building process. The first struggle within my group was that we were all talking over each other to get our opinions across which we quickly discovered…

I would definitely describe myself as someone who is always willing to try new things, including eating strange types of food, chewing on a “tongue numbing” plant at the Arboretum, and licking the bottom of daddy longlegs to see if it tastes like peppermint. Signing up for Orion was opening up the door to a new challenge that I have never experienced before. I have never gone hiking, let alone backpacking, nevertheless I gave the experience my all and what I got back from it was exponential. As an emergency room nurse my mind is hard wired to treat patients as quickly as possible and have them vacate to an admissions bed or back home. The acute care environment can be so hectic that looking past a patient’s discharge instructions can easily be over looked. An emergency room nurse regardless of her or his acute care mindset still knows how to apply the nursing process to any plan of care at hand and it is no different to a plan of continuous care in a patient’s home. The key is sending home a plan formulated in conjunction with the input of the same medical professionals and support staff that took care of the patient in the first place. Nurses are no longer moving towards a care process of just following orders, yet as partners…

Having said that there was also no 'social loafing ' within my team, as Latane et al., 1979 argued was a problem in teams, whereby people were louder individually than they were in groups (chapter 6, pg. 180). There were many barriers that made the communication dynamic terrible. One barrier was opposing viewpoints on how to do things in a certain way. Another barrier was egos making people think they were better than the other so they did not have to listen. The last barrier to effective communication that I noticed was the lateness and lack of effort from the members. In the end, these barriers caused a miscommunication and got a firefighter seriously hurt during an emergency call due to faulty…

Since my first biology class in the eighth grade, the words “survival of the fittest” have embedded themselves within the folds of my brain. After being enchanted by Darwin’s research and brilliance, I never once doubted that phrase. Like any enlightening and thought provoking book does, however, “Survival of the Sickest” by Sharon Moalem, revolutionized my view of science and biology. This book must be read by anyone who has any interest in themselves or the world. Dr. Moalem explores the complex relationships between evolution, disease, and longevity in a way that begs the audience to never be content with our knowledge of medicine and biology.…
