The hormones that are produced by the Pancreas are Insulin, Glucagon, Pancreatic Polypeptide, Gastrin and Secretin. Insulin allows the body to use sugar or glucose levels from carbohydrates, for energy or to store glucose levels. The cells in the Pancreas, known as beta cells are signaled to deliver the Insulin into the bloodstream. The Insulin then signals the beta cells to absorb the sugar, that has been delivered from the bloodstream. The author of endocrine web says “Insulin is often described as a “key,” which unlocks the cell to allow sugar to enter the cell and be used for energy”. Glucagon can specifically impact the liver, when it works to control the glucose levels in the bloodstream. It also works in an action called gluconeogenesis, which is known as the making of glucose. Pancreatic Polypeptide is involved to help digestion, it is secreted between the Insulin and Glucagon. After every meal the Pancreas release pancreatic polypeptide and the levels of pancreatic polypeptide remain elevated for 4-6 hours. The secretion of pancreatic polypeptide is stimulated strongly from eating fats and protein. Gastrin is a hormone which is produced by cells known as ‘G’, lining the stomach and the upper small intestine. While eating a meal, Gastrin stimulates the stomach and releases an acid called gastric. This occurs the stomach to break down proteins, that is consumed from eating foods and also take away certain types of vitamins. According to the website Your Hormones, Gastrin also is a disinfected and kills majority of the bacterial cells that enters the stomach via food. The gallbladder is stimulated from the Gastrin and empty the stored bile and to secrete enzymes from the pancreas.
