The fuel metabolism in normal (non-diabetic) pregnancy is characterized by facilitated insulin action during first half of pregnancy and diabetogenic strain during 2nd half 7.
In early weeks, fasting insulin concentration increases as does glucose stimulated insulin release reaching peak at 18th-20th week5.
