In October of the same year, Vargas led a revolution, organized by his friends, which overthrew the oligarchical republic. Thus, Getúlio Vargas took office and his rise marked the fall of the Old Republic.…
Pedro Jose Gonzalez-Ramos was born in Carrizal, Chihuahua, Mexico on April 28, 1895. At age 14, Pedro became a telegraph operator with the Ferrocarriles Nacionales de Mexico. This paper has three aims. The utmost importance is to contribute to the understanding of the reinterpretation on the 35 year regime of Porfirio Diaz (1876-1911), highlighting the major achievements increasing the Mexican economy, and the fall of the thirty-five year regime. Despite the previous interpretation of Porfirio Diaz regime as an enigma, his government considered as a dictatorship, and inflicting injustice all around the country. It has been said that it is better to regret an action or situation than for it to have never been done. One can confidently conclude Porfirio Diaz was a leader with the best intentions for Mexico as a nation, followed the liberal ideals with an early meeting with Benito Juarez, and had a very experienced…
The interaction between the explorers from Western Europe and the indigenous people of North and South America was shaped by the different cultures and beliefs that each come from. Over the course of several hundreds of years, many different explorers from Western Europe made the voyage to the Americas. Whether they were exploring the different bodies of land in the search of riches, or conquering the indigenous people that resided there, the attitudes of the men that traveled there were shaped by their own beliefs and values that were instilled in them by their home country. This is evident in Hernan Cortes’s account of the Aztec Empire. Sent by the Spanish monarch Charles V, Cortes was meant to find treasure and wealth and bring it back to Spain.…
The Authoritarianism of Santa Anna The Mexican American war was a turning point in the history for both the United States and México. The end result of the war was México losing about half of their territory to the United States. In a time span of 22 years, Mexico would be engrossed in a period where their president changed 36 times, of which Antonio López de Santa Anna would be president eleven times. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly, if all or one of Mexico’s political figures was responsible for their unfortunate history, Santa Anna would be one to leave a deep and heavy imprint in Mexico’s history. In this paper, I argue that Santa Anna was a major contributor to the loss of Mexíco in the war due to his resort to authoritarianism, the decisions he made would set forth a catastrophic course in Mexico’s history from 1830 to 1855, these decisions would be seen as actions of a dictator.…
While presenting a lecture on the “Danger of a Single Story” in a 2009 Ted Talk in London England, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie remarked that if a people are shown as one thing, over and over again, that is what they become. For centuries the conquest of Mexico and the fall of the Aztec empire has been a single story told through only European accounts. In The Broken Spears Miguel León-Portilla provides an account of the first arrival of European colonizers through a collection of codices authored by indigenous people. Although the validity of these accounts is often debatable, they offer another side to the story and show the similarities and differences between the Aztec and Spanish accounts due to their differences in motivations and interpretations of events.…
Henry Clay spoke for most people in the West because he and most of the people thought that they should have better roads, canals, and waterway systems. Henry Clay was also a lawyer and that was another reason on why he was a spokesperson for all the people. John C. Calhoun advocated for the south's “interests” but not all of the southerners because not all southerners had different ideas. Daniel Webster opposed the national tariff at first but then came to support it to try to protect some industries that were located in the Northwest. In 1811 the charter for the First National Bank had expired.…

For example after the failed Falklands war between Great Britain and Argentina the military defeat ushered in Civilian elections and civilian governments throughout the region. This similar scene played out in many countries throughout Latin America. The upswing in Capitalist ventures ended up leading to many entrepreneurs taking their venture capital and placing it on Narcotics. With limited exports from many nations this was a fast way to the top. It also was a fast way to get attention from the United States and their “War on…
Requiem for a Spanish Peasant is Ramon J. Sender’s famous book. The setting of the book is an unknown village, during the Spanish Civil War.
