Pancake Descriptive Writing

I roll out of bed, walk over to the window, and pull back the curtains. Beams of light pour into my room as I squint my eyes. Not a cloud in the sky. It’s mid-June on a Saturday morning and I’m off of school for summer. I walk out my room and hear the sound of sizzling bacon. A hint of maple is wafting in the air. This can only mean one thing: bacon and pancakes. An ecstatic grin appears on my face while I make my way downstairs. As I turn the corner I see a stack of fluffy buttermilk pancakes piled high with a big round plate of thick maple smoked bacon. My mom rarely made us breakfast due to her busy schedule so I knew this was going to be a great day.
After I eat and shower I receive a call from my buddy, DeCoste. He tells me that he and Steve are ready to go. Today was Day 2 of the massive EDM music festival, Spring Awakening, being held at Soldier Field in Chicago. The feeling of excitement intensifies as I throw on my clothes and gather the things off my check list. I decide to go with my lucky baby blue colored, pineapple themed Hawaiian shirt, can’t go wrong right? As I run downstairs I hear a honk coming from DeCoste’s blue minivan in the driveway. My mom kisses me on my forehead and wishes me safe and fun

As we walk up to the loading area our sight is filled with multiple groups of people dressed in trippy t-shirts, short shorts and kandi. It became clear that we were all going to the same place, with the same intention: dance to some bass music. We make a few friends and board the train in the upper level. There is a powerfully pleasant smell of weed flowing through the cart making my buddies and I crack a smile. The whole train was filled with conversation as groups were discussing their anticipation for the artists to come. Day 2 was a stacked day to say the least. From start to finish were artists I had been listening to for the past four years and I couldn’t be more

In the story “Pancakes” by Joan Bauer, Jill is a dynastic character that overcomes perfectionism. First, Jill thinks that even though the pancake house is shorthanded she can run the restaurant with one other person. Jill shows this when she states: “ I can do anything if I worked hard enough” (200). This shows that Jill at the beginning of the story thought that she could do everything all by herself. She didn’t think she need anyone to help her.…

“Tramps, Hobos, Beats and Crusties” There is something romantic about hearing the sound of a train in the distance. It has a way of enticing the imagination--it conjures up sepia images of hardship and freedom, and leaves us with an unexplained longing. It is as if the railroad links us to our country’s past, a nostalgic reminder that some things never change. In 2008 I spent the better part of a year hopping freight and hitchhiking from Maine to Washington. Although I only rode a handful of trains, I learned a great deal about the culture that surrounds train hopping.…

Udit Jain AP English Composition Period 4 Mrs. Moyer Vanquishing a Mountain I woke up early that Sunday morning and made a solid cup of Starbuck’s French Roast. Typically, I’d put two spoons of beans in, but that day I added an extra scoop, reckoning that the additional caffeine would assist me in the event that was going to unfold. I glimpsed over at the shut shades to see the sun’s rays sifting through. With my hot cup of coffee in grip, I trudged across the living room floor towards the window.…

I woke with a start at the obnoxious noise coming from my alarm. It was 9:00 a.m. on a Thursday, in the middle of the summer. Today, I was going to my favorite place in the world: the Tulsa State Fair. I dragged myself down the creaking stairs and into the family room, where I turned on the television. I then ate a bowl of cocoa puffs and went back upstairs to prepare myself for the day.…

Saturday morning came around again, and I had lots of plans and homework to do. With a big paper I didn't want to write, a hockey game I couldn’t wait to play in, and a family gathering later that night, all of the things I had to do piled up. I hung around my house after waking up, watching “America's Next Top Model” and making pancakes for breakfast, not too worried about the obligations I had. Two hours came and went and I headed out to my hockey game. I piled up the car with my gear and drove to Nobles to meet the team and play our last game.…

However, this has not always been the case. While college attendance is at an all time high (“College Enrollment and Work Activity of 2016 High School Graduates”), the portion of our population living in the upper class has increased by 50 percent since 1971, and the portion living in the lower class has increased 16 percent in that same time period. Consequently, wealth disparity has made it difficult for the lower classes of Americans to achieve the level of success that the highest class has. In addition, the share of aggregate income held by the upper class has increased from 29 percent to 49 percent.(“The American Middle Class Is Losing Ground”) This means that the richest portion of the population possesses nearly half of the wealth,…

It was a Tuesday, on September 22nd, 2015, I claimed my seat by the window of a Southwest plane, and leaned down to shove my large purple bag below my seat. I had put my headphones over my ears to escape the noises of the world around me. I turned my head to my dad and brother Taylor, they were adjusting to get comfortable, and then I rotated the opposite way to stare out the tiny window. It was a sunny afternoon, I was already thrilled to get out of high school, and to go to Florida was even better!
