It was built for a reason and not just an accomplishment. It connected oceans together, and that would mean a better trading route. There would be easier paths for trading. It was started by the French and the creator of the Suez Canal in Egypt. They took inspiration from this canal to try and make it however the French failed. It had a monumental challenge, and it was filled with disease and hard working conditions. It can compare to the Suez Canal because it connected the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.
