Pamphlets are everywhere when you walk in medical offices or even hospitals, yet this to me appears to be a startling trend. Pamphlets, for the most part are geared towards how to prevent a condition (although important) as opposed to how to care for individuals who already have said condition. The trend I am noticing is that the notion of treating the patient as opposed to the disease, is being overshadowed by the fast-pace lifestyle of the medical profession. Also, working a nursing assistant I have been told countless times by patients that I am who they see the most out of their entire healthcare team. For the most part I am told that physicians only come in and say a few words and then leave which does seem to agree with patients saying that physicians are “aloof” and seem to “lack compassion.” …show more content…
Courses could be provided to physicians that aim to aid in communicating better with patients. For instance, in the hospital I work in these sorts of courses have been required by the nursing staff and since their implementation the nurse patient relationship has greatly improved. I have seen countless doctors who do have a great patient-physician relationship but over time I have also seen many who lack this necessary quality. Time is valuable in a health care setting, but I believe when it comes to the patient time should always be made. Yes, they may have a lot of questions or they may even be confused but that is what physicians are for. They are there to answer any questions a patient may have and for the most part the best physicians are those who can show compassion and genuine concern for a
