Sir Karl Williams Pamp Jenkins was born in February 1944. He was born and raised in Penclawdd, Gower, Wales. He composes jazz, rock and classical music. Jenkins also plays the oboe, saxophone, and the keyboard. He studied music at Cardiff University in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. Then went on to postgraduate studies at Royal Academy of Music. He was first exposed to music by his father who was a school teacher, played the organ for their church and was also a choir master. For the majority of Jenkins early career he was known as a jazz and jazz-rock composer. Co-founding a rock jazz group called Nucleus, the group went on to winning first prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1970. He then went on to join Soft Machine, which is a rock
