Pamela Angelou Analysis

Maya Angelou was a civil rights activist, writer and a poet. She was born April 4th, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. She passed away on May 28, 2014 in Winston-Salem, NC. Her actual birth name was Marguerite Johnson. Pam Munoz Ryan was born December 25, 1951 in Bakersfield, Ca. She attended the San Diego University and is a writer. Pamela also teaches at an Oklahoma college. Maya Angelou and Pamela Munoz Ryan are an influence for many people. They are both very similar but different at the same time.

Some interesting things about Maya and Pamela that they are both very similar. For example they are both very talented and great writers. They both are character writers and they also were/are teachers. Both Maya and Pamela have also visited the white house. Also they both believed in a better education system. She then started working as an early childhood teacher for three years. After having four kids she went back to school. She got her master’s degree to teach children’s literature in college. When she finished her graduate program, she became very interested in writing. She then wrote her first book which was “The Crayon Counting Book”. After publishing her first book she didn’t get a lot of attention. But when she published “Esperanza Rising” in 2000 her career went up. Maya’s career started going up when she wrote her 1969 memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Made literary history as the first nonfiction best-seller by an African American woman. She had many poetry and essay collections. She also received many honors through her career. Including two NAACP image awards in the outstanding literary work in 2005 and 2009.
