Pam is a 30 year old woman who is in her third pregnancy with a BMI of 24 before being pregnant, which is considered normal (Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity, 2015). She has gained 20 pounds throughout the pregnancy and she is 30 weeks pregnant. According to the Nutritional Foundations and Clinical Applications textbook, a woman who has a normal body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy will gain 25-35 pounds in total but only 1 pound per week in the second and third trimester (Grodner et al, 2016). Approximately, Pam should weigh about 15-25 pounds during the 7 ½ months.
