Currumbin Creek flows water through to Palm Beach. The word Currumbin is of native origin and means quicksand. Also, nearer the coastline where Palm Beach is located, is known as a place of shifting sands, showing that Palm Beach’s coastline is significantly dynamic and active (Stuckey, 2012). Evidence of erosion, deposition and longshore drift was …show more content…
There is a one meter sloped sand cliff before entering the beach and a groyne has been built. The dunes are closed for restoration.
Evidence of dune/beach management There are new introduced plants, rocks, sand as well as a groyne. A groyne has been added and residents have not built their houses too close to the beach. Vegetation is on the dunes and have been fenced off. Also, the community is planting more vegetation.

Process Evidence Description
Erosion Erosion involves the wearing away of rock, soil and other materials found along the river bed and banks. In this photo, it is evident that erosion has occurred as a sloped sand cliff has formed. An enormous amount of sand has been eroded away, as shown. (BBC, 2016) Source: Ms Knight Deposition Deposition is the process of eroded material being dropped or deposited. An accumulation of sand is shown around the wooden legs of the partition which indicates that deposition has taken place in this area (Alevelgeography,2016). Source: Ms …show more content…
Whereas, at Palm Beach Surf Club, there were many housing and apartment developments right on the beach. This destructive land use affects the coastal environment by impeding the natural coastal processes and changing the physical structure of sand dunes.
Crown land is land belonging to the British Crown. According to Crown Land Management Act 2009, it is prohibited to construct on Crown land. If someone proposes to build on Crown land they must purchase the land or arrange authority, for example a licence (Environment.sa.gov, 2009). This is important to consider for the proposal of the cruise liner terminal as it would be difficult to construct on the Southport Spit. Moreover, the origins of The Spit date back to 1897, showing that it has preserved for more than 100 years and it's land has sustained protected for even longer.
