The Pakistani Taliban also known as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan(TTP) has been around since the 80s, and although they are not the same Taliban that the U.S. is fighting today they are closely related. The group started during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. During said time Pakistani fighters fought hand in hand with the Taliban against the Soviet. Upon their return home they adopted the name Pakistani Taliban which allows them to maintain ties with the Taliban. They often offer logistic help and safe-haven to Taliban forces.
