Pakistani Culture Assignment The Pakistani people originally come from the country of India located in south Asia. When India gained its independence from Great Britain in 1947 a partition took part of their land and created Pakistan, a separate Islamic nation. The nation of Pakistan today is 68 years old, but there history dates back much further since they were originally apart of another country. The capital of Pakistan is Islamabad. The Pakistani culture is 98 percent Muslim. Muslims believe in only one god. God’s name is Allah which is Arabic for “The God” (Pakistani Diaspora In the United States, 2015). Elderly people in this culture are committed to their traditions and some believe that disease can be a direct punishment of God for their sins. If they do not sin and stick to their religious teachings they will stay healthy (Stanford EDU, 2015). The elderly women, sometimes try traditional folk medicine when it comes to illness and seek regular medical help only when the pain due to the disease becomes intolerable. This culture firmly believes in prayer first as a method of healing. If you receive the curse of sickness, then you must appeal to Allah for restoration and not cry or moan about your illness, you must embrace it. First they are not required to enroll in Obama care because of there religion. Next are some important aspects of care that health care professionals must remember to do when caring for Muslim patients. First, respect and privacy .Something as simple as knocking before entering. Next, do not touch while talking, this can be offensive to the men if the women are touched. Next, some Muslim women will insist on covering their bodies with the exception for the face, hands and feet at all times, there exam can still be completed with the patient in the gown. Hospital gowns should be long, with long sleeves. This culture does not ban treatment by opposite sex but it is recommended that when available the same sex treats them. Especially if the patient feels strongly about it. A male physician should examine a female patient in the presence of her husband. Muslims are not use to our American way of life so we must take time to explain tests, procedures and treatments to the patient and appropriate family
