Project Name: Wakinyan Paha Oyate’s Gardens
Introduction:
The mission of Wakinyan Paha Oyate’s Market is to the mission of Wakinyan Paha Oyate’s Market is to provide a weekly community event for all ages that will: provide a source of fresh fruit, vegetables and local goods to residents, and encourage residents to get in the habit of purchasing fresh vegetable and fruits. the organization will be strong and sustainable, support and promote viable growth and operation of the market. it is being created to function as an economic development tool and a community gathering place. the purpose of the market is to promote locally grown/made products, and encourage visitors to patronize nearby businesses. it is also hoped that the market will foster a sense of community and improve quality of life. the intention is that vendors, customer, downtown businesses and residents will benefit from this market.

Our vision for the Farmer’s Market is for it to ultimately become an established market that attracts people to Thunder Butte and the surrounding areas of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe. Wakinyan Paha Oyate’s Market is a catalyst for the nation's most …show more content…
According to research many of the meals at the schools or public fast foods are a lot of carbs and starches. Thunder Butte residents are required to do labor in exchange for healthier foods. There will also be an invitation for community members to help with the garden, with the understanding that the food is to be donated to the community & elders. Wakinyan Paha Oyate’s Garden will meet with Oyate Connections in the near future to find out if they would help build the garden beds. Community members will also ask for donations of lumber and other items for the garden. We have also spoke to the Youth Oyate Connection program about getting involved in this project.
