1. How could Fatima possibly be more important than Santiago's treasure?
The first reason is because the treasure is at the place ones heart stays. When Santiago falls in love with Fatima, his heart is with her and makes the treasure not important. The second reason is treasure can only give one material satisfaction, but the soul mate can bring mental satisfaction and accompany. It is the thing can make one have real happiness. Thus, Fatima, Santiago's true love is important than treasure.
2. Santiago learns from the camel driver that "If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.... Each day, in itself, brings with it an eternity." What does that mean in your own life?

For example, if one comes across a snack when he is hiking, he can analyze the situation and determine if he is in danger and what strategy he should use. However, if one is afraid of snack, the first reaction he will do is scream, and that will usually scared the snack and make things worse. The person with fear will also think about all the bad possibility, such as being bitten, as it already happened, and that make he has no ability to think and deal with the problem he is facing. Thus, the fear worsens the problem. It is important not to give into our fear because when we are not fear, we can see the problem clear, and we can be clam enough to analyze the situation, so we can find the best solution for it.
5. Does Santiago ultimately find his treasure? Is it gold and jewels or is it something else?
Yes. Santiago ultimately finds his treasure. There are Spanish gold coins, precious stones, gold masks adorned with red and white feathers, and stone statues embedded with jewels.
