Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection. In the play “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, feuding families bond through the love of two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The two without telling their families get married with the help of a Friar in their home city of Verona, Italy. Very soon after being wed, Romeo runs into trouble and is banished from the city. Again, with the help of Friar Lawrence, they make a plan to leave town together. However, things quickly starting changing and everything seemed to be going wrong with the Friar's plan. The incidents with the plan soon lead to Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. Throughout the entirety of the play, Shakespeare helps prove that love causes both physical and emotional pain.

The final element to go wrong in the Friar’s plan was Romeo and Juliet dying. In the Capulet tomb where Juliet was lying, Romeo enters and sees his love ‘dead’. Romeo thinks that the only way for him to be with Juliet is to kill himself. Romeo exclaims right before poisoning himself, “Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die” (V. iii. 131). However, just moments after Romeo kills himself, Juliet wakes up and realizes Romeo’s dead body next to her on the ground. Juliet is heartbroken and knows the plan has gone drastically wrong. In fact, she had said before that if the Friar did not come up with a plan for them to be together she was going to kill herself and when she sees Romeo’s body she knows that they cannot be. Before killing herself with Romeo’s dagger she says, “This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die” (V. iii. 183). As a result, Romeo and Juliet cause each other the most awful physical pain there is,
