Especially since many individuals today will always have fear and will always try to avoid altercations. The applicable meaning is many would rather choose to do other things than to do the task that is necessary even if there is a consequence that may take place over a period of time which could be any form of pain. For example if someone today needs to lose weight, one may choose not to because of the pain they will have to deal with over time and the patience needed in order to get fit.
