Food, the world revolves around it. People eating the minimum average of three times a day and on top of that – snacks. Snacks are especially appealing when we are bored and having nothing to do but stuff our faces with delicacies, not having a care in the world. These items serve to families as both wants and needs. But today we will be exploring many issues that this source of life offers to us. When we think of a society being denied one of the basic necessities to life, we tend to sway our attention to Third World countries; however, this is also occurring right here in the United States. The citizens of this nation are not given the necessary access to healthy foods. This forces many Americans to eat unhealthy or packaged foods that …show more content…
This freshness is different than it once was. Food in the past was fresher than food today. This is true mostly because there are so many regulations that are placed of foods today than 10 years ago. On top of the regulations there are restrictions that ultimately lead to the waste of food. What restrictions do you ask? Restrictions such as appearance, expiration date, and if the appropriate procedures were taken in treating the foods. Without these restrictions, people would be helped by getting these “defects” and save them from going to waste. Notably, packaged foods nowadays are on the rise because of the ever advancing in technology (Americans buying...). With technological advancements such as these, it is easier for the consumer to obtain “yucky” packaged foods. Packaged foods are approximated to be “78% of store base food expenditures” (Americans buying...). Places like Sam’s Club, Walmart, Dollar General, 7-Elevens, and local convenience stores make this process of buying packaged foods that much easier. Not all packaged foods are unhealthy, however the majority of packaged foods are. Eating healthy foods are not top priority for citizens; instead eating food such as chips and candy bars that they can find at their local convenience stores are top priority, said Justin Moed (Weidenbener). Even when people in these place do obtain fresh foods, they take those fresh foods and make them unhealthy by adding a bucket of grease to it even though they say it is their southern traditions; but it does not take away the fact that they take good fresh food and fry it. In the Chattanooga Times Free Press it says, “Traditional southern foods -- even vegetables such as Fried Green Tomatoes... Can be landmines… (Sabin). All of these problems associated with packaged foods impact us in the way we eat healthy
