Fiscal year 2018
Purpose
This is an analysis of the Pacific Northwest region detailing areas of opportunity and actions for implementation of the specified goals. For this analysis, fiscal years 2015, 2016 and 2017 were reviewed for long term trends. During the development of this plan, several themes emerged through an analysis of the region’s strengths, weaknesses and opportunities. These themes form the basis for the division’s goals and priorities. These will receive particular attention in the next several months and years. This is a plan on how to move the region forward based simply on numbers. Numbers don’t always tell the whole story. The staff at each facility are a huge wildcard. …show more content…
Each of the above priorities in the action plan has one thing in common, collaboration. Collaboration is not the same as teamwork. Teamwork exists within an individual yard to move it forward. Collaboration is the free flow of information between teams that allow the region and division to move forward. Yard management needs to recognize and pursue initiatives that have the potential to add value for the entire region and Copart. Each staff member in the region needs to have an understanding of the company’s overall business strategy and how their job contributes to both the yard and region. The yards will work together on all priorities to advance the overall region and division. This is the same idea that I used to turn around State Farm in Jackson. Through not only team work but the collaboration between the yard, CSRs and titles we were able to resolve each concern that State Farm brought to our attention. We were able to gain the respect of Salvage Monitor Don Hart, Team Manager Andy Skates and the State Farm staff in their Atlanta Operations …show more content…
The average zone is 10 region wide and FY ’17 shows almost a 10% increase in overall subhaul cost. We’re paying more and yet our metrics have not improved. Portland North is an excellent example. Subhaul rates are up with an average zone is 4. Lates have not decreased and same day pick-ups have dropped. The entire way of dispatching and working with the subs needs to be revamped in order to decrease the overall CPC.
The region needs to be smarter about revenue. Rather than look for additional sources from outside, we need to reevaluate what’s being left on the table. Little things can make a huge difference. Keys seem so innocuous but can drive big revenue. Very few of the Pacific Northwest are actively making keys. While there is revenue generated from the keys themselves, the big money comes from increased buyer fees from higher prices. The simple fact is that people pay more for cars that run and they don’t run without keys.
By not suggesting additional services, we’re doing our sellers and members a disservice. Mailing personals and license plates is another small source that is often overlooked. Both sellers and their insured appreciate this service. In Jackson, we’ve gotten USAA to give us blanket permission to mail unexpired plates. It’s a little bit of money that adds
