West Coast crooner Anderson .Paak has already made plenty of music, with three albums under his belt (2014′s Venice, along with two records as Breezy Lovejoy back in 2012) - however, Malibu feels like a debut album. And, in a way, it is, because this record is .Paak’s introduction to a whole new audience. Since the release of Venice, which had one feature and production predominantly from Callum Connor’s LO_DEF project, .Paak has appeared on numerous West Coast hip hop records, including Dr. Dre’s Compton and The Game’s The Documentary 2.5. .Paak’s contributions were noticed, and the results are telling - Malibu features an astounding feature and production list, including ScHoolboy Q, Rapsody, Madlib, The Game, and KAYTRANADA among others. However, Malibu doesn’t float thanks to these artists - it is .Paak’s talent and technique alone which makes this album the newest great record of West Coast hip hop.
