1. How would you define public administration? Use two articles from week 1 to support your answer. (10pts)
Lewis writes “…public interest is a process – an exploration – rather than immutable or even identifiable conclusion” (Lewis, 2006). However, Tiebout’s assumptions that voters are like consumers may be a challenge when trying to uphold democratic values; this is because the Denhartds’ suggest that the primary role of public administrators is to help the citizens by listening to their real needs and interests, not just attempt to control or respond in a way that an organization would with a customer by steering them in an entirely new direction. The Denhartds’ make clear that the government, in this care the public administrators are more than just an organization, their primary focus is on social equity and diversity. Tiebout further advises that the residents ability to choose leads communities to compete with one another to be the one that better serves the needs of its voters; but Denhards advocates that public organizations and the systems in which they take a role in, are more likely to succeed in the future if they choose to come together and collaborate as one by sharing community values, political norms and stay focused on the citizens
