PTSD: All Quiet On The Western Front

PTSD is a condition that is caused by traumatic events and affects 5.2 million people in the United States during the course of a given year("What Is PTSD?"). In some extreme cases PTSD can prevent people from having a normal life or can even be life threatening. PTSD is a condition that has many terrible symptoms, gives modern therapists many problems, and has plagued soldiers for many years. There are three different types of symptoms one can experience when having PTSD. The first type of symptom is reliving the traumatic event that caused the PTSD. Anything that can cause a memory of the event can cause a flashback which may cause intense feelings of fear, helplessness, and horror similar to the feelings they had when the event took place. First off, millions of people were killed in World War One so when the soldiers came home there was a large possibility that the soldiers would have lost family members. Losing a family member would be very sad and costly as well for any soldier. After the war they were in no state of mind to be bringing in an income for themselves or their families. Another struggle for a soldier after the war would be suicide. Life after the war would be hard for these soldiers and many recognized that because over 3500 German soldiers killed themselves after the war. All of the soldiers who tried to live in the post-war world have to deal with many hardships. These would include mental trauma, political upheaval, and a hard time trying to find employment("How Did Soldiers"). If the soldiers in All Quiet on the Western Front were to live through the war, the effects of PTSD would make it feel like they were fighting another war for the rest of their
