Setting
The settings in which this data was collected were vocational rehabilitation centers in each state in the United States. Each year, service providers are required to enter data into a national database regarding individuals who have exited vocational rehabilitation programs under their care. This data is organized into a national dataset, which contains each exiting participant. Exits are interchangeably described as “closures” and fall into seven different closure categories. This data is organized into 43 different variables. This data can be requested by individuals, and was provided to the researcher in SPSS format on a CD-ROM in June of 2014.

This data set, which contains 43 variables across all participants, is available to researchers upon request. The primary investigator asked the United States Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services for this data and signed the required agreements in June of 2014.
The data will placed into an Excel file, and any individuals without a closure of 3 or 4 will be excluded from the study. Any categories outside of age, occupational status, hours worked, wages earned, will be excluded from the analyses and taken out of the Excel file. After these categories are separated, the data will be placed in an SPSS file so that they can be statistically analyzed.
To ensure the validity, outcomes will be assessed more than once by the principal investigator, to ensure that these variables are accurately calculated. This will be done by comparing results from the same population twice. An independent observer will also complete the abovementioned steps and results will be compared. Any disagreements will be discussed and subsequently rectified.

PSY3180 SHORT ANSWER ASSIGNMENT 1 Question 2: History taking History taking from a patient facilitates a comprehensive view of the patient, and a timeline of when neuropsychological symptoms occurred. Answers about the patient’s history and their problems in response to questions asked by the examiner will provide much of the needed information that is required to make an elaborative assessment ((Lezak, Howieson, Bigler & Tranel, 2012). However, considering the severity of the patient’s disease, potential language impairment, lack of alertness, and/or memory, some information about their life can be obtained from other sources, like cognitive functioning records, hospital records or personnel working with the patient, or from family, friends, and employers (Lezak et al., 2012).…

Theoretical construct Based upon analysis of previous research, it is evident that research into compassion is less prevalent than compassion fatigue (Kagen, 2014). According to Gilbert (2005), compassion can be divided into two parts: 1) a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune and 2) a strong desire to help stop the suffering. The desire to help stop the suffering is what separates compassion from empathy. A plethora of research has identified that compassion is reduced when a person is continuously exposed to compassion inducing stimuli, known as compassion fatigue (Conrada & Kellar-Guentherb, 2006).…

A potential threat to the internal validity of my assigned research study is maturation because participants in the non-Snoezelen study were much older than other participants in the study with an age gap of up to 20 years. Maturation also threats internal validity in the sense that Snoezelen participants had been living in the residential aged care facility for a longer period of time compared to the non-Snoezelen group (Bauer et al., 2015). Participants who have been living in the residential facility longer are less likely to experience stress or anxiety in comparison to newer residents of the aged care facility. Statistical regression toward the mean is another potential threat to the interval validity of the study because the selected…

Neurological impairments vary among individuals, but often affect natural adaption. Individuals suffering from FAS often require life-long care at home or in a medical setting (Masotti, Longstaffe, Gammon, Isbister, Maxwell & Hanlon-Dearman, 2015). Children with intellectual disabilities will often receive care from a developmental specialist, physician, nurse, teacher, language therapist, occupational therapist, and physical rehabilitation specialist. Nurses will identify intellectual disabilities through history taking, observation, and developmental screening. The nurse will help provide emotional support to the family, a safe environment for the child, and practice community-based nursing care to help the family adapt and function optimally to promote physical and mental development in the child (Ball et al, 2015, p.885-89).…

Measuring validity is important because it determines the impact of research. Validity is defined as “an integrated, evaluative judgment of the degree to which empirical evidence and theoretical rationales support the adequacy and appropriateness of inferences and actions based on test scores or other modes of assessment” (Salkind, 2010, p.1). There are many criteria of rigorous research, for example, internal validity, external validity, objectivity of observer, replicability, and reliability (Hernon, 1991). Among various forms of validity, in particular, external validity refers to the extent to which study findings are generalizable to a population, while internal validity relates to whether a study measures what it purposes to do (Hernon,…
