I am a current high school student enrolled at Century College as a part time PSEO student. The reasons to being a high school and PSEO student are different because as a PSEO student there are more responsibilities and freedom, while as a High school student we depend more on our teachers and have less freedom. As a current PSEO student I’ve come to learn that there are a lot of responsibilities like managing your time wisely, going to class, and catching up on lectures. Time management is important because it gives you the opportunity to have more time to study, to do homework, or time to do other things that you couldn’t get around to. There is often hours between morning classes and night classes so that time between can also be good …show more content…
As a high school student my time is structured by people, after a fifty-five minute class I’ll go to the next class within the four minute passing time that is being given to us unlike college, I can wake up whenever I want to for this or that class because I was given the chance to choose my own schedule to my own likings. I can’t even choose my own class, I have to take classes that are required for the school. As of right now, I am taking Latin Three. Only two years of language is required in order to graduate but since I go to Nova Classical Academy it is required that a student takes at least three years of Latin in order to graduate from their curriculum. And I honestly think it is so stupid. My teachers are constantly reminding me that I am missing this or that homework or that there is a test coming up over and over again when clearly I get it, and I understand what I have to get done. You don’t have to keep reminding me every two seconds. Doing homework is also different because I have homework almost everyday and it is due the next day unlike college, the homework/assignments aren't due until a week later. And being in high school there is less time to study for a certain subject because you have all these other homework to do that is literally due the next day for a different

In the words of Edward Abbey, “society is like a stew. If you don't stir it up every once in a while then a layer of scum floats to the top.” In society today many of the current political policies or societal norms may need to be “stirred up,” including our current secondary education system. Today it is becoming increasingly harder for student to apply, get admitted to, and pay for college. Good grades and extracurricular activities are not enough to be admitted any more.…

Countless students and teachers go to school every day and work very hard to meet what is asked of each of them. Teachers work more than 40 hours a week, especially when there are events going on throughout the school year. Students go to class to earn an “A,” not to learn what the teacher is teaching the class due to the fact that students were taught to contently earn a letter grade in that class. However, teachers are not at fault either because the school board and administrators give the teachers a timeline of all the curriculum the students must learn to a certain point in time of each marking period. In “Against School” by John Taylor Gatto, he describes how numerous students and teachers go to school and they are just dullness is so…

    Why Switch Classes

Do you ever wonder why we switch classes for school for other classes? Well in my opinion this is useless and even causes a problem for students like all of us. We waste more time switching and talking to our friends then learning. We do not create a bond with our teachers, and teachers don't have the freedom when they switch. Have you ever talked in the hallway while trying to switch well this is more of a time waster then a time user.…

In an article titled “What’s Holding Back American Teenagers?” by author Laurence Steinberg, the claim is made that, “Our high schools are a disaster.” Steinberg begins by mentioning education policies which had recently come to the attention of Obama during his term as president. This involved two issues, the first being early-childhood education and the second being college accessibility; however, Steinberg’s article preferred to focus on a third issue: American high schools. Throughout the article, he continually reflected on research from organizations such as OECD, The National Assessment of Educational Progress, and The National Center for Education Statistics.…

In “Against School,” John Gatto argues that the main purpose of public schools and the educational system in general is to produce a “manageable” populace. Gatto argues that the current educational system does this by slowly acclimating students into certain habits, confirming students to certain rules, and implementing a certain mindset into students that makes them respond well to authority. All of these things that Gatto argues adds up to make a system for training a complaint workforce. Firstly, schools achieve what Gatto states their purpose is by acclimating students to how factories are organized and what working in a factory is like. Secondary, schools also accomplish Gattos argument by restricting the class choices of students and…

I believe that we live in a very competitive society today. High school students are put under a tremendous amount of stress to be the “best of the best”. Many of my peers feel if they do not take every AP class offered and graduate with perfect grades then they will never be able to succeed. Due to schedules overloaded with AP classes, students have little to no time outside of school and often forgo the importance of finding balance by participating in the liberal arts.…

Some seniors in high school still do not know what they want to be in the future and some others are just careless when it comes to the future, even if they are going to graduate in a couple of days. Some of the high school graduates who are planning on going to the college are just going to figure out themselves. Why go to college if you are just figuring yourselves out? Why not just take a year off for that? The graduated high school students should not be forced to attend college because some students present financial problems, lack of motivation, and lack of interest.…

Argumentative Essay: Flaws of the Education System There are inherent flaws within the education system which we use today pushes students far beyond their limits and it lacks emphasis on practical skill. Schools create a needlessly high stress environment basing their future upon numbers and grades rather than teaching and refining their practical skills. Lots of potential is flushed out of the curriculum due to college and high schools insisting that students must be able to juggle advance courses, maintain high unweighted GPAs, and participate in extracurricular activities in order to succeed in the future; hence, repairing and recognizing the inherent flaws of the education system is crucial to ensure that students earn the future that…

When I was still in the 7th grade, my middle school began to send me to the local high school to take classes because they did not offer a rigorous enough curriculum. This was in large part due to my school district lacking the funding to diversify the classes they offered. I was not the first student in my district to do so, in fact, there were a few students that I knew personally that had been sent to the high school while they were in middle school. I saw their frustration when they, as sophomores, had already taken the most challenging math and English courses the high school offered and there was nothing at a higher level left for them to take in those subjects. I saw smart, ambitious, hardworking students in a school system that was…

In high school follow a school directed schedule and proceed from one class to another while in college you manage your own time and schedule. In high school a bell tells you when classes start and end and in college you get to class without any formal reminder. In college you are required to have all homework or any missed tests or assignments done with no reminder from teachers like you get in high school. You are also required to get help if needed in college because teachers do not approach you with the request if they think you need help. Everything you do in college is all up to you and you have to manage everything.…
