Procurement in the Project Management Process Identification of a requirement preceding procurement coincides with a specific step in the overall project management process. During the procurement phase of the project, the levels of planning, executing, monitoring and control with eventual closing are phased. The Project Management Officer (PMO) has to have a role in the process or, it could be an outsourced third-party vendor in which the PMO must exercise his/her oversite.

They ultimately maintain files on the vendor through the contracting department in an entity. PMO’s and/or the project management team who have worked closely with vendors have the best expertise on documenting lessons learned about procurement to avoid costly mistakes. “In any case, it is the project manager's role to ensure that the documents accurately describe the work to be completed by the vendor, the evaluation techniques to be used to select the vendor and the methods by which the contracted deliverables will evaluated.” (Brown, G. 15 April …show more content…
The practice of past procurement project benchmarking or auditing, would be a good resource as to allow for sufficient time and deliverables to be accurately reviewed to avoid any unintended errors. Furthermore, if the procurement action or process is being managed by an outside contracted entity, the time necessary to involve them should be analyzed and/or tested before this phase implementation. Finally, the closure of the service and/or product procurement, should also be reviewed as to its timeline with the analyzation of service or product performance improvements scale which can increase profit margins or decrease them. One aspect of the balance or, elimination of an internal or external procurement process is based upon the above preliminary resource evaluation dependent upon what type of deliverable is being procured along with the quality, schedules and interface of other projects with overall cost efficiency at the
