PICK Reflection Paper
My favorite portion of curriculum The curriculum for how to avoid falling for a jerk was very interesting. I think it was a great program that we got to participate in during class. There were a lot of things that I really enjoyed about these classes. The first part I really enjoyed was the R.A.M. (Relationship Attachment Model). It was fun having our own models to follow along with the presentation. I also thought it was a great visual to really understand what she was talking about. It also related to the whole presentation as every section we went over was one of the five areas of the model. This included areas in; know, trust, rely, commit,

This makes it very different from teaching your own curriculum. Challenges that I think you could face with a boxed curriculum is not being able to customize the curriculum to what you want it to be. There is certain content that you have to cover, which you may think is boring or relevant in a direction that you want to take the course. So a big problem would just be the freedom that you would have otherwise with teaching with your own curriculum. Those with free spirits and individuals who just wants to teach with whatever the needs of the audience are may struggle with this type of curriculum. Especially if they do not agree 100% with the curriculum …show more content…
This curriculum relates to relationships. In the PICK course we talked about how shared faith strengthens a couple’s bond. This is something that helps strengthen relationships. Dr. David Olsen said, “conflicts over differences in faith have challenged and strained many marriages. Do not rationalize or overlook your differences.” This research is an example, as well as other research and areas that were discussed in the PICK curriculum, relate very well with the Interpersonal Relationships content area in Family Life Education. It is based on communication skills, love, romance, relating to others with respect, sincerity, and responsibility. Which is the PICK curriculums main goal.

The forerunning researcher of matrimonial satisfaction, Dr. John Gottman constructed findings from examining numerous couples who confirmed their romantic union through a ceremony. Identified by a biblical reference of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Gottman systematically explained as to why married partners may become estranged. Guided by a negative affect reciprocity model, Gottman theorized four intercommunication techniques that are present in one's marital interaction that can predict a couple's plausibility of divorce. Through the interpretation of Gottman’s exploration of marital quality from his observations of others, I was able to evaluate my peer’s relationship with her husband (Baril & Corneal, 2010).…

Teaching Outside the Box by LouAnne Johnson provides a plethora of tips and ideas on how to succeed in teaching through the rough patches. She goes through everything from how the teacher should look to disorders that may affect students. Out of the twelve chapters, chapters six and eight stuck out the most to me. Due to the reality of discipline being a necessity in the classroom, and how the light can impact the students’ ability to learn effectively. Chapter six, Discipline Is Not a Dirty Word, effectively helps a teacher realize that student’s need discipline to grow, but it can wear a teacher down.…

There should be a clear understanding of the level of commitment expected to insure a successful outcome for all parties involved. Second, the leaders of the couples mentoring program should develop assessment tool for couples. This will assist leadership with identifying the couples that will be mentors and those that are in need of mentoring. The basic set-up discusses older couples mentoring younger couples. One problem I learned from class, is that women are currently still face many issues that were once thought of as being resolved. Issues such as wage discrimination, job discrimination, sexualization, and violence are only a few of the many issues we are challenged with. Not only do women still deal with these issues but we also endure sexism on a day to day biases. These issues never came to my attention in my everyday life. However, through taking this class it made me socially aware of the issues that I was facing but was not conscious of.…

On May 20, 2016, my adviser and I sat down to have a discussion about the university required courses and courses that was mandatory for the Liberal Arts college. English 101 was one of the classes I chose to take my first semester because I knew I had more knowledge on writing efficient papers because of my previous AP English courses in high school. In high school, I was always told that I was an adequate writer because I knew the basic of connecting ideas that provided a clear concrete understanding. However, the only time I received an unsatisfactory score was when the information I included in my paper was unorganized. Also, another reason I chose to take English my first semester instead of my second semester was because I knew I needed…

Final Essay: How Topics In This Course Relate to the “Working” World The first day of this course was a memorable one. I remember walking into class and sitting next to someone who I had not seen for a couple of semesters, and we were chatting about what we thought this course was going to be like. After the professor opened the class, he made it clear that this was not an ordinary class, taught in the time-weathered classic method of notes, lecture and paper exam course instruction. Now, the class was structured to teach facts and equations in the book, but went beyond that, using supplements like in-class examples, random questions and the powerpoints constructed by peers.…

Couples Interview Couples are an interesting family dynamic and, in this profession, counselors will experience working with many different types of couples. Personally, I have worked with couples who are enduring relationship difficulties. The challenges that they face are many, yet I believe counseling is a great resource for couples to discuss their issues with a third party and strengthen their relationship. I decided to interview a couple I know fairly well but wanted to learn more about how they come together and how they manage different aspects of their life.…
