Toscani's campaigns invited a lot of political controversies and legal objections globally. There were so many human rights groups who where against these advertisements, they argued that Benetton's was exploiting human life in agony and they have crossed the line of respect for human feelings. Even though the Benetton group supported defended Toscani’s advertisements the retailers all around the world opposed it, as they constantly resulted in increasing tension amongst customers, Benetton began to face reprisal from their retailers and others who were concerned about the ethical issue of using human suffering to sell clothes. The rebuttals include a civil suit filed by Missouri Attorney General Jeremiah W. (Jay) Nixon (Barela, Mark J. 2003) the case was filed in opposition "We on Death Row" campaign, which featured US prisoners in death row. According to The Guardian, 2001 “Benetton has been forced to apologise over its hugely controversial "death row" adverts and make a substantial charitable donation after the US government accused the Italian fashion company of misleading officials to gain access to inmates”.Resulting disappointment among the US citizens who boycotted their products and many …show more content…
