Why Be On a Fitness Team? I am often asked, “why be on a fitness team, when this is an individual sport?”. I agree, this is an individual sport! When it comes down to show time, it is you, and you alone that is standing on that stage in 6 inch heels wearing the tiniest swimsuit decently possible. You are up there putting yourself, and your body on the line.…

Have you noticed that Physical Education seems to be a narrowing field? I strongly believe that there is a reason we need to keep PE in schools and in society today. Unfortunately, I feel as though many of the educators and teachers today aren’t taking it seriously. They aren’t doing enough to help the students become physically active, instead, the teachers just sit there because it is a job to them, nothing more. If the teachers had a better personal philosophy on what they actually want to teach, then I feel like PE would be a much stronger field and everyone would want it around.…
The career that I chose is an Athletic Trainer. I would love to be an athletic trainer because I love helping people and I love to be active. In order to get and do this, I would need many science classes, or body health classes. My goal for when I get to be an athletic trainer is to sometime get at least my masters degree. This is my plan because if I have my masters degree that will open up for a good amount of jobs because it is a good start for that job.…
The summer before my senior year, I suddenly realized I had in four years, only collected ten volunteer hours out of the sixty required to earn an honors diploma. Quickly, I began scouring the internet and local listings for any possible opportunities which I would be able to earn hours. The perfect opportunity had been right in front of me for all four years, and I hadn’t even realized; Kenston offers a student athletic training program where students are able to shadow the school athletic trainer and learn the basics of athletic training and first aid. I emailed the athletic trainer who I vaguely knew from having been mildly concussed my previous lacrosse season , and asked if I would be able to join in volunteering during the football…
“Assessment of Physical Activity Levels of 3rd and 4th Grade Children Using Pedometers during Physical Education Class” 1. This research study was also found on the ERIC database. After reading and analyzing two studies that discussed strategies on encouraging physical activity and/or education in the schools, the importance of who is teaching the class, and then also the support the school gets for physical activity, I found this study interesting since it dealt with the actual physical education class and what the children were actually getting out of the class. A school may have physical education classes but if the students are not benefitting from the thirty to forty-five minutes spent in the class, then it does them no good. I searched…
Ethical dilemmas are prevalent in education and, as leaders, we must find solutions that are fair and ethical for all stakeholders. A recent ethical dilemma that surfaced at my school involved a teacher and his use of physical contact with students. Our physical education teacher, who I’ll refer to as Mr. Smith, has a good rapport with students and coaches several sports outside of school. Mr. Smith has been teaching at our school for 10 years. He tends to make physical contact with students when greeting them, either with a hug or rub of the shoulder, and students have never complained about his seemingly warm nature in the past.…

I had the ability to observe a physical education class co-taught by Ms. Mussell and Ms. Potts. This fifty-minute physical education class at Saint Anthony Middle School was an insightful experience. The Saint Anthony Middle School is attached to the high school, but is distinctly separated. The drive to Saint Anthony school district was not lengthy at all; it is located within welcoming residential area. Upon entering the school, I observed a diverse student population.…
Academic teaching in Physical Therapy is one of the various career that a Physical Therapy graduate can pursue. However, holding a bachelor's degree in this field wouldn't suffice in aiming to be a successful professional educator. A Physical Therapy educator must be versed in the pedagogy in academic teaching. Pedagogy is defined by Westbrook et al. (2013) as stated by Watkins and Mortimore (1999) as "any conscious activity by one person designed to enhance learning in another".…
