Addressing the Challenges Faced by the private physician practice in transforming to PCMH Model.
Introduction
Delivery of health care has benefited over past few years from implementation of Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH), this method has not only brought in drastic change in effective and efficient treatment delivery but also cost attached to it (Robert J. Reid 2010). Patient -Centered Medical Home (PCMH) is defined as “a way of organizing primary care that emphasizes care coordination and communication to transform primary care into “what patients want it to be” (Kelly et al 2014). Based on Goldberg’s (2013) research as to how these transformation has acted as double edge sword by creating an effective and efficient system at the same time eating away small physician practice as these practices are unable to transform, they end up in acquisition by bigger hospital or not transforming at all. The most important determinants which affects physicians are “huge investment” “attitude” “burn out in the profession” Goldberg (2013), Dunstone, David (2001). Extending Christensen, Clayton (2001) research on disruptive innovation, this study suggests how these innovation can reduce the overall cost of the transformation in the physician practice, and also help to reduce the overall cost of health care. This study argues the importance of policy in making these innovation easily available to the solo physicians than larger health organization, and also allocating funds to physicians based on the strata of practice.
