Frequently, in public places, such as stores, restaurants and shopping malls, I witness adolescents with their heads turned downward staring at a small blue screen, texting or scrolling through social media. Clearly, there is little to no interpersonal interaction occurring. Consequently, I just read a short article that young people today are experiencing and being treated for chronic neck pain due to the overuse of the neck as it is hunched over a cell phone for many hours each day. Technology has its benefits and when balanced with a strong sense of self, interconnection, and community, positive things can be achieved. Teaching our children, the true meaning and benefit of self-connection and face-to-face interactions, will prove highly profitable and in so doing we will begin to see evolution occur. Positive progression will be made as we determine the finest aspects of old and new perspectives and implement the best of each. I believe our society should begin taking steps to address this excessive connectivity conundrum and help our adolescents build a strong foundation that will carry them securely through the twenty-first century and
