P4 Explain strategies used in health and social care environments to overcome barriers to effective communication and interpersonal interactions.
Introduction
Health and social care settings can present a variety of barriers to effective communication and interpersonal interaction. However these barriers and environmental factors can be overcome with the use of specific strategies targeting specific barriers.
In this assignment, I am going to explain a number of these strategies aimed at improving the quality of communication in health and social care settings.
A. Communication and interpersonal interaction possible strategies

Showing interest through body language, facial expression, and appropriate eye contact will create the perfect balance of professional and friendly relationship needed in health and social care environment.
d. Appropriate environment, attitude and confidence.
Having the right environment in health and social care settings will definitely help effective communication. This includes: reducing noise levels, improving lighting, organising seating arrangements to enable conversation to flow freely; and if necessary providing people with quiet areas for more privacy.
As well as having the appropriate environment, it is essential for care practitioners and professionals to adopt the right attitude when dealing with service users who are often than not vulnerable. Individuals using healthcare facilities should feel emotionally secure. They should never feel threatened. Rather it is important that they feel valued in order for their experience not to have a negative impact on their self-esteem and confidence. Appropriate non-verbal behaviour (smiling, relaxed body language and being friendly) as well as good listening skills will consequently boost service users’ confidence.
