Have you ever wondered what it was to live in the Ozarks? Well here’s a story of a young boy named Billy. Billy was a young country boy who lived in the Ozarks with Mama, Papa, and his 3 sisters. Billy always had done farm work on his Papa’s farm, and had always wanted some hunting dogs. Billy was home-schooled by his Mama and lived in his own personal room. One day Billy was fishing when he found a newspaper saying that two hound pups were up for sale. $25 for each one. Billy showed the article to his Grandpa down the road. Grandpa owned a small shop. When Grandpa saw the newspaper he said that Billy better follow his dreams. Although Papa needed a new mule, Billy worked different jobs and got payed for a long time. After a about maybe two years of hard work, he finally got enough money, he went down to Grandpa’s store and showed him the money. Grandpa asked Billy where he got the money. Billy said he had been working for a long while to get some hound pups. Billy …show more content…
About ⅓ of the way to town, he heard a screech owl screech. Billy had heard somewhere that 2 screeches of a screech owl meant bad luck. So he waited to hear a second screech. There was no screech. He kept walking. A little past the screeching he had made it to town. Although he was getting weird stares he didn’t mind. He knew he did seem a bit odd with his dirty overalls and no shoes. You see, Billy only wore shoes when it got cold. He walked through the town and through the school yard. Once Billy got to the train tracks he looked in the office and saw a guy with a hat standing behind the counter. Billy gave the man the ticket and the man smiled. He told Billy to come on back with him. There was a wooden barrel in the back and when the man pulled the lid up, out came two little red hound pups. The man cut two holes in a bag and put the hound pups in it. The hounds found their way to the holes and poked their heads
