Oz the Great and Powerful is a movie about a man ,Oscar Zoroaster or Oz for short, who is brought to the land of Oz where he is confronted with both good and evil, charged with the duty of destroying evil. When Oz first arrives in the Land of Oz he meets Theodora, who explains to him that one of her sisters Glinda is evil and out to destroy the land. Oz however is a flawed man, he accepts the challenge, only so that he may have the chance to inherit the treasure of the Land of Oz. As the story progresses it comes to light that Glinda is the good witch, and unbeknownst to Theodora, Evanora is truly the evil witch. Theodora is tricked by her evil sister Evanora, corrupting her and turning her Evil as well. Oz wants to give up on the Land of Oz, claiming he is unable to save them, revealing his motivation had always been the treasure of The Land of Oz. It is only when Oz starts working to save the people for the right cause he, with the help of the townspeople and Glinda are able to defeat Evanora, causing Theodora to flee and rid the land of Evil. …show more content…
Evanora represents the snake, cunning, tricky, and evil, working to corrupt humanity. Theodora has both good and evil in her but is committed to being good, until her sister Evanora disguised as helpful, claiming a bite from her apple will heal her pain, making her heart impenetrable. Just as the snake from the bite of apple will give knowledge, “when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Gen 3:5). When in reality it opens eyes to shame and created original sin. Just as in Genesis the bite of the apple does not end well for Theodora, her heart withers away leaving only
