Owning any animal must be safe for the owner themselves in order for the owner to fully benefit from owning the animal in the first place. Horse riding is a dangerous activity which, through studies, has been proven to be more dangerous than riding a motorcycle or taking part in extreme sports (“Risk of Injury & Risk Management”). Many studies have been taken on horse riding and involvement with horses in order to try and quantify the risks of being around these powerful animals and, though some studies do not agree with others, the results of these studies all show that being involved with horses is a risky practice than can result in personal injury or even permanent damage. According to a study done in the UK in the year 2011, 8 deaths occurred along the roadways due to horse riding accidents in that year.
