What is the relationship between ownership and self identity/development? This is an extremely complicated question with multiple varying answers. There are many theories trying to answer this question, such as, Plato 's claim that "owning objects is detrimental to a person 's character", whereas Aristotle argues that "ownership of tangible goods helps to develop moral character." We damage our "possessions" over time, to the point they become useless, unneeded and unwanted. However, to many this doesn 't matter because the goods can be easily replaced with replicas that are of the same or better quality of the original. We can also lose our "possessions" in natural disasters and tragedies, such as fires or hurricanes. We cannot own objects that can be taken away so easily. Parents give away their children 's outgrown clothing to relatives and friends. If they owned the clothing in the first place, how could it be given away so easily?
