In the story Bierce's use of time is very profound. This is proven when he uses a detailed explanation of how farquhar escaped murder, when in reality he gets hung. Like Farquhar starting to understand the world around him to what the readers are understanding and beginning to sustain what happens to him are almost alike. And as Farquhar problems become more difficult as the story goes on, as what happened to him starts becoming less believable.
Now to the concept of warfare that Bierce shows in the story. As pei0le can tell Bierce wasn't a big fan of war. In the story war is defined as death, violence, and suffering. Bierce even hinted how views war by making it seem as if Farquhar was a soldier, but not actually a soldier, he’s a casualty of war. As the war begins to start when he decides to fortify the confederacy by burning the bridge down. He is a subject to the military law as he participates in the conflict. The soldiers in “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” reflect and represent the unforgiving and controlled nature of war.
In the end, Ambrose Bierce shows good examples of extremely important competence of dishonest writing worthy of an explanation, because Farquhar is showed as the main character. This is showing honorable qualities like courage and love of family, he’s guaranteed to fail. The qualities are proven when he wanted to burn the bridge and the time he spent on the plank thinking about his family and how much he cared for
