In between the years of 2006 and 2007 the executive officer at the time of the United States Navy ship the USS Enterprise, Owen Honors was seen in some not so tasteful videos. These videos were broadcasted on the ship’s television network for the crew to see. Honors some people may be split on the course of action that should be taken in the matter. Some may feel that yes, he should be held accountable for his actions and stripped of his title. Then there are others who feel that he did nothing wrong and did it all in good humor. The person in charge of resolving the problem could handle this in a number of different ways based on the person perception of the problem. According to Kinicki & Fugate (2012) social perceptions could be broken up into 4 different stages. The first stage is the stage of Selective Attention/ Comprehension. This is the stage where the person handling Honors case starts in which they must identify the salient stimuli. This is the event or situations that sticks out to the person observing them. The Second stage of perception is Encoding and Simplification. In this stage the person who observed the salient stimuli doesn’t remember exactly what the stimuli was but takes the brief image of what they saw and turn it to a schema. Schema is a person mental summary of a particular event they saw. Then the person observing must encode the situation, this is the part where the person decides how to act based on his or her environment and different specifics. The third stage is Storage and Retention. This is how the person remembers details of prior experiences and keeps it as a long-term memory for further reference. The fourth stage is Retrieval and Response. This is where the person takes all of their experience and use what they have learned to handle a current situation they are in. Every person’s perception to particular events varies on their life experiences and the environments they are
