This paper will describe the Apollo and Daphne scene from Ovid Metamorphoses, as well as both characters as individuals. Apollo is a well-built man who thinks highly of himself and he is very conceited. He knows that he is considered the ideal person, physically, and he also makes sure that everyone else knows as well. When dealing with his enemy, Cupid, Apollo makes comments such as “… what are a brave man’s arms to you? That gear becomes my shoulder’s best”, indicating that Cupid’s arrows are no match for his physical strength. After dealing with Apollo’s bullying, Cupid decides to get revenge; which results in Apollo falling in love with Daphne, a woman who will never love him back.

Callisto and Actaeon from Ovid and Pentheus from the Bacchae both really have naive natures that lead to their their transformation and overall demise.…
