If you have before bed, or during breakfast, you can take about 5 minutes to make a list of the things that you need to get done during the next day, or that day, depending on when you put the list together. If you want to organize the list, do it after you have everything that you want to get done, written down, and then start to organize the tasks as you see fit. You could use the amount of time the tasks will take, or the things that need to get done first. If you want to go digital, there is a number of apps you can use.

Multi-tasking can be great if you can do it. If you know you cannot multi-task, just save your time, and do not do it. We are also programed to want quantity over quality, and that is not a good thing. But there is a lot things that you can do at the same time, like brushing your teeth and brushing your hair at the same time, while this does not seem like much, doing this little tasks at the same time can add up to extra few minutes that you use to do other things. You may have to think outside the box when it comes to multi-tasking, but you can save a lot of time in the long run.

In part one of “How to Become a Straight-A Student” by Cal Newport the main of this story is how to not to work and study for twelve hours straight, to show how to manage your time doing some simple things and help you avoid the urge of procrastination. The five ideas that resonated with me was making a “To Do List” and a “Things to Remember Column”, to feed my body with nutrients, tell others of your work and go to an area where there is no one you know, plan the hard days in advance, and to study at least an hour straight and to rest from time to time. Making a to do list resonated with me because it showed how easy your day can be with this idea. Just like in the story of Stephen, Newport said that “Stephen was able to really relax and have a good time at night. ”(Newport, )…

A student wakes up in the morning to finish an assignment while simultaneously getting ready for the day. While he may have gotten out the door on time to make it to class, he soon realizes his socks are mismatched, his homework has many errors, and his stomach is growling from forgetting breakfast. Although the student may have mastered the art of getting so much done in such little time, he tends to feel groggy throughout his days and his assignments don’t reflect his potential. In Christine Rosen’s article, “The Myth of Multitasking,” she describes multitasking as the “Human attempt to do simultaneously as many things as possible, as quickly as possible.” While multitasking may maximize time one might crucially need, it often gives less efficient results in the long run.…

When I tried to multi-task I thought in my head the more I do at the same time the more I could get done but it became to stressful for me. I would do one half of one paper and go to the next page of homework and do the same thing I did for the first paper. I would keep doing this until I got both papers done but when doing so I would get distracted by the conversation I was having on the phone. The situation I was in then turned stressful because I kept focusing more on being on the phone then focusing on doing my homework. In the end trying to juggle three things at once took me about 3 hours to get 2 papers done.…

Yesterday, I had to come home at seven from a late band rehearsal, take a shower, and finish a multitude of class assignments. By the time I was done, it was eleven o’clock. I could barely fit in time for a good night’s rest, so attempting to watch videos on Youtube for a little while was out of the question. The list of things I have to do in a day is so extensive that even eating dinner has to be delayed until later if I want to be done with my duties before a certain time. A couple of days ago my friend asked me to come outside to play basketball at noon.…

Multitasking or switch tasking has been looked at as a time saver. But is it really? When we did a exercise on this topic I found that it was easier if I did one thing at a time unlike if I did two things at once. What I began to learn was that with my own habits and tendencies was that if I just slowed down and didn’t try to do everything at once I was able to get more work done at a higher quality and not as stressful.
