Overview Of Sean's Cognitive Development

It is important for children to develop correctly according to their age. It is also important to remember that not all children will meet their milestones at the same time. Parents may worry if their child is not developing at the same rate as another child so they need to be reassured that they will eventually meet their physical milestones. According to Bruce (2011), children like Sean tend to development the best through play. Children will develop both their gross and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills are large actions that are performed with body parts such as legs and arms. Fine motor skills are smaller actions, for example, a child using their fingers to pick something up; known as the pincer grip. At this stage of Sean’s development his cognitive development is developing at a fast pace. Kid Sense (2015) have stated that it is important to monitor a child’s development to make sure that they meet their developmental milestones. They also believe that milestone checklists can be used to find out what is normal for different age groups in terms of development. Flood (2013 p.75) constructed a table of the developmental milestones that certain age groups should be able to reach. According to Flood (2013), Sean should be able to walk up the stairs with alternating feet, perform multiple tasks on his tiptoes, for example, walk, stand and/or run and have the ability to ride a tricycle with good skill.
