Overview Of Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy enables people to live life to its fullest, no matter their age, history, or limitations. I find that really empowering because as an occupational therapist I can help someone achieve their goals, whether it is as simple as buttoning their shirt or as important as living on their own. The impact I have on their life is an enormous responsibility, but the outcome makes it all worthwhile. Seeing that smile on their face when they accomplish a certain task after the countless struggles and setbacks they have endured is the greatest reward of all. Furthermore, helping them fills me with immense pride and gratitude because I know I have truly made a positive difference in their life. However, seeing the remarkable recovery he made with the help of his doctors and therapists was truly a miracle. With their help, he went from being connected to machines in a hospital bed to living life as a rowdy teenage boy, which inspired me to help other kids in similar situations to his live their most successful life. In addition, supporting him and my family through the struggles they experienced during his recovery process taught me to be empathetic because the recovery process will not always be smooth sailing, but its outcome will be worth the tribulations. Furthermore, I have volunteered with the Hamilton Area YMCA S.K.O.R. - S.O.A.R. (Special Kids Organized Recreation - Special Organized Adult Recreation) Program by participating in fun events for special needs families. There is no better feeling in the world than seeing the joy I bring to those kids just by teaching them how to shoot a basketball or helping them win prizes in carnival games. Helping them accomplish ordinary childhood tasks inspired my dream to be a pediatric occupational therapist.
As a occupational therapist, I hope to provide better care for people with limitations, especially children. I do not just want to treat each patient as a duty and move on to the next; I want to treat them like family and leave a memorable impact on their

For example, the pediatric specialization within the program allows me to pursue my ultimate goal in becoming a pediatric occupational therapist. Furthermore, the program’s strong commitment to community service allows me to make an impression on people’s lives and become an active member of the community. I also look forward to taking the skills I learn within the program abroad to other countries. As you can see, occupational therapy is my passion, and I hope to pursue my dreams as a cougar at Misericordia

Cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) have been documented throughout the histories of medicine, science, and philosophy, dating as far back as 400 B.C. Despite having hundreds of years of research and the help of medical advancements, the outlook for a patient post-stroke has extremely poor up until the last 100 years (Galindez, Sanabria, & Borroto, 2014). Coincidentally, within the last 100 years, the field of occupational therapy has also been growing, developing, and advancing rehabilitation treatment itself, especially in the area of stroke therapy. I was always the kid looking to help others, go the extra mile, make adjustments, and put a smile on your face.…
