From entertainment to the arts, concerts to comedy, the Overture Center is a bastion of culture and community in a city famous for both. The Overture Center, whose history dates back to the late 1920s, hosts almost 200,000 programs each year and is a staple in the Madison community.

In any community, no matter the size, it is important to have a place where people can come together for a variety of reasons. In Madison, a place where people come together to celebrate, to be entertained and to learn is the Overture Center. This helps to utilize the space and provide for the greatest number of people. At any one time there can be almost a dozen events happening. The downstairs meeting rooms can be used for small groups while the stairs ball rooms can hold hundreds of people for Galas and receptions, all while a Broadway show is happening in a theater.

All of the coordination and planning of the events and gatherings at the Overture Center are handled by a team of individuals who work with various engagement programs to plan and manage the events for the center.

This event is only open to University students, and they get in for free with a student ID. While free food may be the draw for many students, the myriad of events and experiences keep them there throughout the night. During the event, students can see a variety of performances by there peers and professionals.

One of the large theaters allows students to hear performances from the many signing groups at the University. Another theater allows students to see a professional magician and other entertainers. The main atrium is home to a dance party, and students are also free to roam and explore the

I have just finished performing a piece with the chorus minutes earlier, when a member of the chorus steps forward and addresses the audience to explain and introduce the next piece.…

Walking into the auditorium, I immediately noticed that the atmosphere of the concert was completely different from that of the classical concert I attended weeks earlier. To begin with, it seemed like there was much more of an audience. Everyone seemed excited for the concert to start. As for myself, I was also excited because, on the very front of the program, it said that there was a guest artist that was going to perform with the ensemble. The performers wore more of a business casual look, some were a little more dressed up than others, but overall they looked very well dressed.…

Opening night, the dancers that performed in the University Dance Theatre production, had talent, agility, and graceful movements. The concert had a variety of dance genres, visual appeal, and emotions that each piece and the show overall represented. Humor, drama, and serenity were not emotions I thought I would receive while watching these dances. One thing I did not realize would make many of the pieces was how crucial and reliant lighting and graphics were necessary to make the piece more visually interesting. However, I was excepting similar dances and movements; even if, some pieces had comparable choreography and emotional appeal the diversity stood out.…
