“The player must be enrolled as a full time student; be making adequate progress toward obtaining a degree; and maintain a certain grade point average” (Mans and Gibbs 34). Student athletes have this anxiety resulting from very demanding requirements from their college, which they expect them to accomplish. All students on campus of course have to complete the requirements for a successful education, however, having to do well in all classes and also practice hard to have victories in their football games is overwhelming and results the students to have stress. “Some colleges recruit scholar athletes in the hope that the scholar spare enough time from the classroom to help the team” (Smith 217).The student athletes have the fear and worries of not graduating and causes their mental state to …show more content…
Almost all of these student athletes pursue to have a career in the sport they dream in these universities because they are given scholarships to do so. Although these scholarships are given to them, the university can confiscate it for whatever reason they want it to be. “The head coach can reduce or cancel a player’s scholarship for variety of reasons” ( Mans and Gibbs 36). The institutions take away their financial aid just by being injured and not being able to continue, even though they can still continue their education. These students are dependent on whatever help they receive, but the hypocrisy of the colleges guaranteeing these students for their help and education but eliminating it when the fault is on the institution itself. College athletes are experiencing through very tough circumstances because of the colleges lack of compensation and care for their athletic students. The institutions should learn to consider that the students need better health conditions and less pressure to complete what is impossible for them. Dealing with football practices and passing all their classes ends with the outcome of the students having poor mental state and having many injuries caused by overworking themselves. The universities should as well help them financially and invest on their education even when football can
