Overfishing means to reduce a fish population to the point where it cannot sustain or barely sustain itself. This is happening all over the world due to high demand of fish and the increasing population of people. I, Fatima Zerlish as a citizen of this country want to inform you from that because of this problem many people are suffering. Some areas are managed properly, others have little to no regulation. We now know without a doubt that the fish in the ocean are a finite resource and this resource is decreasing rapidly in numbers every year. Many marine scientists now believe that overfishing is the biggest threat to the ocean environment, even greater than that of other human caused disruptions like increased pollution. It's not reasonable to just stop eating fish or to expect others to do so. Fish are too important to many cultures and diets around the world. However, there are alternatives to such as eating other kinds of meats such as beef, or vegetables, and reduce the amount of fish we eat and to suggest that others do so too. To reduce overfishing is to get consumers to buy farm raised or single line caught salt/fresh water fish. This increases jobs for line fishing men/women. It reduces gill nets and drag netting. More than 85 percent of the world's fisheries have been pushed to or beyond their biological limits and are in need of strict management plans to restore them. Several important commercial fish populations such as Atlantic bluefin tuna have declined to the point where their survival as a species is threatened. Target fishing of top predators, such as tuna and groupers, is changing marine communities, which lead to an abundance of smaller marine species, such as sardines and anchovies. To restore fishes abundance and productivity we can create marine protected areas. These marine reserves are area of sea dedicated to the protection and maintenance of biodiversity, of sea life. In these protected areas no commercial fishing is allowed. This has been done in many parts of the world and is proving to work extremely well. Theses breeding …show more content…
Overfishing occurs when more fish are caught than the population can replace through natural reproduction. Gathering as many fish as possible may seem like a profitable practice, but overfishing has serious consequences.Over fishing will eventually deplete many fish species. Natural predators will ha caught than the population can replace through natural reproduction. Gathering as many fish as possible may seem like a profitable practice, but overfishing has serious consequences. The results not only have to rely on other food sources for their survival. The cost of food products that contain fish will go up in price. Over fishing any fish population will affect the ecosystem of any body of water. Many people will be and also are being impacted because of this. We have to manage the sea properly, so the fish can recover. We all have to take action to prevent further damage, so the future generations can also have this
