Overcoming Obstacles

I have had a lot of things to overcome in my life, some of them worse than others, but when I was in the fourth grade I had to overcome a major obstacle. My great grandpa got really sick around Christmas and had to be put in the nursing home. He was in the hospital for almost six-months and everyone thought he was going to be ok, but one night my mom got a call saying that we needed to come to the hospital quick. My great grandpa had a heart attack while he was asleep and he died. At the time I didn’t really understand how one day someone could be here and be ok and the next day just be gone. Me and my great grandpa were always close and after he died I didn’t know what to do. I just lost hope. I didn’t want to believe that everything was going to be ok.
For about two- weeks after his death I went through a really hard time. I lost hope in myself and I lost hope in God. It sounds terrible I know but I just didn’t understand. I didn’t understand how God could just

I knew that God was going to help me overcome this obstacle like He had in the past. So one night I got down on my knees and I just prayed. I prayed and asked God to forgive me for turning away from him and I asked Him to help me. It’s amazing how answers your prayers because the next morning I got up and I felt good about myself, and for the first time in a while, I said to myself “Haley you’re going to get through this.” To overcome any obstacle you cannot rely on yourself or your family. You need to have God. God is not going to turn away from you and not listen. God is always going to be there through thick and thin. I am so thankful every day that I got down and I prayed because if I had not prayed and asked got to help me, I don’t know where I would be. I am not one to tell anybody about who or what they should believe in but if you want someone to always be there, bring God into your life and never take Him

Even in the midst of shock and disbelief they needed a visible reminder of God’s presence. There were no words to fix or even begin to explain the horror of their grief but my mere presence helped to point them to God’s never-failing love and presence in the midst of the worst day of their lives. When I returned home from that emotionally and spiritually exhausting visit, I immediately walked the prayer labyrinth in my backyard. As I walked and foolishly prayed for the “right words to say”. God reminded me (with a fat raindrop to the top of my head) that I was not alone, the family was not alone; God was present with us in the tears, grief and the subsequent anger and doubt after a loss of a young life filled with so much potential.…

It is the strength of God that help to carry on and move forward. Prayer is powerful. God does not always answer us when we want Him to, but He does hear us and in His time He will move on what we ask Him for. Personally, my decisions have not always been led by God, but I do frequently ask Him for guidance and for His advice. When I do something that is not of his liking, I talk to God about it and ask Him to help me through the situation and ask for forgiveness.…

“Success in life comes when you simply refuse to give up, with goals so strong that obstacles, failures, and loss only act as motivation. ”(“Esther Spina”) This quote really spoke to me because in our world today, majority of society has goals that they expect to achieve, but many struggle because they are ignorant to the amount of work that their goals entail. Another reason many people do not reach the amount of success they desire is due to individuals lacking enough confidence to overcome obstacles. Because of personal experiences, I have to fully believe maintaining a strong work ethic and practicing self-determination is an effective way to ensure positive growth.…

Step by step we lined up and walked to the center of the field, all around us the sound of the Olympic music played. I felt as if nobody could touch us, we were on top of the world. Then, we stood proud, hand over our hearts as the National Anthem played and as the last words of the song came to a close, reality returned, nerves overtook me and the butterflies trying to escape from my stomach. For one last time we huddled as a team and yelled, “Cyclones!” As we will face many different challenges in life, we will also overcome them.…

Back when I was in 5th grade, a transfer student from Korea started her first day at St. Finbar and I remember people telling me to talk to her and become friends. So, I became really good friends with her, but a year later, she stopped talking to me and started to bully me. Being in a Catholic school and seeing that no one was really doing anything about this action, I automatically thought, God is never here for me.…
