Before I started dating Ty, Sam and I would text constantly and hangout in school. After Ty and I started dating, Sam started to get extremely disrespectful and insulting towards me. However, Ty was his best friend, so I felt like I could

However, according to Darwin, venting may not be the best way to cope with negative emotions. Darwin believed that ventilation causes anger to increase. Although there is a study in the book that proves this theory, I disagree. I find venting extremely beneficial. When I do not talk about my emotions with a friend I trust, I feel as if I am bottling up my emotions. Anytime I am arguing or upset with my boyfriend, I tell someone. If I am at school, I talk to my roommate, who also has a boyfriend. If I am at home, I talk to my twin sister, who has a boyfriend as well, yet she also loves and cares about me and my feelings. If ventilation is not healthy, why do therapists and counselors exist? These professionals are paid and trained to listen to their customer’s problems. If those customers do not gain anything from seeing a therapist or counselor, why would they spend the money and time talking to them? Although I do understand how ventilation can occasionally make someone emotionally aroused faster, I believe it is more unhealthy to bottle up your

One of the most dominant ideologies in contemporary societies, is that women are more emotional than men, thus the notions of the "emotional woman" and the "unemotional man". Butler (1990) and Connell (1995) argues that femininity and masculinity are a matter of performance in nature, meaning that they are both subjects to heterosexual norms that are created and imposed upon us through education and social relationships. Due to gender emotions behaviour being socially constructed and the fact that society changes over time, it is fair to say that the way men and women expressed their feelings in the past might not be the same as it is today. The aim of this essay will therefore be firstly to discuss the gender differences in the expression…

He was in the hospital for almost six-months and everyone thought he was going to be ok, but one night my mom got a call saying that we needed to come to the hospital quick. My great grandpa had a heart attack while he was asleep and he died. At the time I didn’t really understand how one day someone could be here and be ok and the next day just be gone.…

Instead, our “inclusive and exclusive gender labeling” (175), as Kimbrough puts it, causes us to categorize each reaction as not fitting in with the perceived notion of the gender. Rather, one should approach such situations with humanhood in mind, understanding that it is not wrong for men to take on feminine traits or vice versa, simply because our idea of gender norms is merely a social construct and instead our humanhood is what defines…

In ¨Talking to Boys the Way We Talk to Girls¨ Andrew Reiner describes how the way parents treat and talk to their children based on gender affects the way men and women embrace their emotions in the future. Reiner claims that men are inherently forced to suppress their emotions starting at a young age, while women are more in touch with their emotions because parents were more accepting of girls expressing their feelings. Between physical affection and verbal affection, boys do not receive the same amount or type as girls do. This permanently affects the way that each gender interprets how expressing emotion is socially acceptable. Reiner uses examples of real life situations and proof from research to educate the audience of the root of this problem.…
