Overcoming Obstacles

An obstacle I had to recently over come during this semester of college was that I had a personal conflict with myself. I suddenly lost my motivation to do my work when it was assigned and I started missing class when I hadn’t missed a single class up until that point of confliction. I didn’t see a need to do the work when it wasn’t due for another couple days ahead, so I saved it till the very last day and I would stress and regret my decision because I was in a rush to do it. I didn’t even bother to learn from my mistakes I just continued to do it and my grades could have been better if I stayed motivated.

One strategy I decided to take was to start a study group with my close friends, us doing all our home work together and seeing them do their assignments would motivate me to do my work as well. Even though we could only meet up late at night, around 10pm, we would

and stay focused since those days I have a morning class and a night class, so school is all I focus on. I have plenty of time to do work for all my classes now with that schedule so I don’t procrastinate and build up stress that is easily avoidable.

Every day I wake up I tell myself that getting up early to go to these classes and staying up late with my friends doing our assignments is worth it and will pay off in the short and long term. I continuously remind myself why I am doing all this and whenever I get negative thoughts, or I start to doubt myself I make sure to find ways to motivate myself to keep pushing forward with 100 percent. Without the motivation I wouldn’t stay up those late nights and spending most of the days of the week working on my assignments for class, I am happy I could find my inner motivator to encourage me to reach new heights every day and achieve difficult tasks that some people can’t

Going into Soundings, I had unrealistically high expectations for the year, especially considering my busy, after school, schedule. I, now, know that, though living up to my expectations is possible, it is extremely difficult. Mentally and emotionally, this half of the year has been riddled with highs and lows. and so far, I have not accomplished many of my numerous goals. I had realized much earlier in the year that Soundings was not what my friends, and even what my siblings, who were both in the program, made it out to be.…

In everyday life one is faced with challenges, for students have a constant battle because they are going through the same occurrences week after week. This year being junior year the most challenging would have to be AP language. This is the case because being in an ap class was not an aspect I was accustomed to. I would do most of what was asked I believe the reason for there to be more struggle in comparison to the rest of my classes was because I would not do high quality work. When I dedicate time and remember how important a class really is I know I can improve.…

When I know I have a test coming up and I am not very familiar with the material I always tell myself well if I don’t know it by now what’s the point of studying I will never get it in time for tomorrow. Were on other days I will continually tell myself and remind myself I have to study, I need to study. For my behavior change activity, I chose to modify my sleep schedule by adjusting the time I aim to fall asleep. Although I sleep around eight hours a night or more, the time I fall asleep interferes with my life and health. On a regular basis, I attempt to fall asleep around three o’clock in the morning and stay asleep until I naturally awaken around noon. I attend class only three times a week for evening classes and have an online class. However, I have become accustom to working on class work at night.…

When it comes to making I’ve always had the basics downs, just come up with something you want to achieve. But after taking this college prep class I realized thats theres more to goal setting than just thinking of something you want to do, you have to see what kind of barriers you have. You have to see if there's gonna be anything that is going to hold you up back. I feel that I have my fair share of barriers but just because I have many barriers does not mean I am not going to do anything to get rid of them. I feel that a major barrier that holds me back is my lack of consistent attendance.…

The first marking period was very interesting. I was met with many obstacles and changes that I did not think we’re going to be there for my first marking period in high school. Some of those obstacles were the weekly test that were given, this is especially interesting since back in Middle School we were not met with such stress when it came to learning. Another obstacle that I have witness and overcame was the homework, especially in my AP classes alongside my Honor class. I was also able to overcome the challenge presented to me by being in a new building and barley knowing anyone.…

In order to be a successful world class engineering student, and further enjoy your educational experience in the process, you need to be relatively self-aware. An example student would understand that learning how to slow down and analyze where they are at in various areas of personal development would be a tremendous help in succeeding in school and in the rest of life. Students who practice and work at being “good students” generally do noticeably better in school, and tend to get more out of their education. The key is to understand that the learning isn’t just in the classroom, at that they way you live outside of school has a direct impact on your education. Your time management skills, study habits, physical and mental health as well…

Pushing Beyond Memorization Have you ever walk away from a class and said to yourself "I never understand anything that the professor was talking about;" or "this class is boring, and it doesn 't hold my attention, how I am going to pass the exams?" So how can you take the most uninteresting class and learn the material for life? This isn 't an easy task by far, but as the saying goes if it 's easy it 's most likely not worth it. You have to work hard for the better things in life, the same goes for learning.…

Throughout this year I have been your student nearly all of it, during which you gave us multiple assignments to complete. Three of the documents that are especially prominent in my mind are: the Advertisement Analysis, the Movie Review, and the Personal Narrative. The Advertisement Analysis is the assignment where we chose similar advertisements and compared them to find similarities and differences between them. The Movie Review is the review where we watched the movie Macbeth and criticized it using sources from outside sources. Then the Personal Narrative is the paper where we chose a significant moment of our life and wrote an in-depth synopsis about that duration of time.…
