A time where I faced an obstacle was how I didn’t make OCDA. OCDA is a choir event where you audition and compete against other students around the state of Oklahoma. Taking private lessons helped to prepare for the audition. Compressing your time in practicing is a hard thing to accomplish. In the year past, since I made OCDA seemed like a possibility, however not being one of the finalist was a real setback.…

I sighed as I looked up to see the 12 foot tall wooden fence. I still didn't have the courage to go through with it. It was a scorching, hot day in Ethiopia, and another day has passed since I had concocted my plan to escape. My house was ringed by a huge 10 feet wall all made of steel except for a little chuck by the back. My plan was simple, climb over the wall so I could play outside, but not while my parents were around .…

Those exact words have shaped me for who I am now.…

Sometimes life can throw you curveballs, and you may not even realize it when it happens. Part of growing up is learning how to recognize these obstacles and how to overcome them. One of the biggest obstacles I have had to overcome was realizing that I needed to surround myself with different friends. Looking back now, I can see that this issue began in early elementary school, but it wasn't until seventh grade that I realized that I felt weighed down whenever I was around my group of friends. I did a lot of self-reflection this past summer, and I decided that I deserved more.…

Overcoming obstacles have been the story of my life. At this moment I could explain various ones that I have encountered. When the biggest obstacle that I face every day is just waking up and beginning my day. Being that I am a single mother, a caregiver to my mother, who at this point in her life cannot do anything for herself, and working a demanding job that requires me to work over twelve hours each day, not to add being a full-time student has become a task within itself. Each day I ask the question like "What am I living for when everyday feels the same?"…

I have surpassed uncountable failures, but there is one that has shaped the person I am today. As a Vietnamese boy growing up in the Czech Republic, I was a big target of high expectations of others; especially, educationally and hardworking. People expected me to work hard and be good at school. However, I was an outlier of this perception. In other words, I did not care about education or my future, and I became one of the worst students of the school.…

“Success in life comes when you simply refuse to give up, with goals so strong that obstacles, failures, and loss only act as motivation. ”(“Esther Spina”) This quote really spoke to me because in our world today, majority of society has goals that they expect to achieve, but many struggle because they are ignorant to the amount of work that their goals entail. Another reason many people do not reach the amount of success they desire is due to individuals lacking enough confidence to overcome obstacles. Because of personal experiences, I have to fully believe maintaining a strong work ethic and practicing self-determination is an effective way to ensure positive growth.…

Success is like hanging Christmas lights on a house with an old ladder while having an inattentive partner attempting to keep it stable. Say the ladder represents the path up to success, the government plays as the partner who is there to help support whom is on the ladder, and the Christmas lights represent the end result of success. When climbing the ladder it might be shaky and scary but he/she is reassured that they have some kind of stability from their partner (no matter how unreliable they may be) and that keeps steady in hopes of string up all of the twinkling lights for all to enjoy. Success can be defined as finding someone’s ultimate happiness in life. For some happiness may come through wealth, fame, having a family, or even working…
