In the movie “Soul Surfer” Bethany Hamilton is abruptly attacked by a shark and in the process loses one of her arms. Her whole life is turned upside down and takes a huge detour. Without her arm, she starts to question how she can live with herself. She finds it very difficult to do simple tasks. After a while trying to get used to only using one arm she visits Thailand. There, she finds hundreds of families that have lost their homes and loved ones from a tsunami. She starts realizing that though something’s happened that you can’t fix you shouldn’t dwell on the past. You have to continue moving forward. Like “Soul Surfer”, “The Story of My Life” by Helen Keller described her struggles in life. At a young age, Helen Keller became deaf and blind. Her teacher, Miss Sullivan was trying to teach her how to communicate. To make Helen understand, Miss Sullivan put Helen’s hand on a doll. Then she spelled the word, d-o-l-l in her hand. Though she did not understand it applied to the doll. Then Miss Sullivan tried spelling the word water in her hand. Becoming frustrated, Helen threw the doll on the floor. Then Miss Sullivan tried a different approach. She brought Helen to the well-house and put water in her hand. Then she spelled the word w-a-t-e-r in her hand. Then Helen understood that the word w-a-t-e-r applied to the liquid in her hand. Full with childish
