Overcoming Obstacles In My Life

Improved Essays
The obstacle that I have had in my personal life in the past three years is when my mom was incarcerated in 2013. My mother was my biggest role model and my best friend since I had father issues earlier on in my life. She was the person that I went to for everything. When she left, it was such an emotional strain on my family and me. It was a month into my sophomore year at Apopka High School, so I was fairly new to being in high school. It stressed our entire family out. With her leaving, I had to grow up much quicker than I thought I would have to. It gave me a different perceptive of life and many more responsibilities that I had to take care of. I had to get a job, still keep my grades up, and balance the many different clubs that I was a part of. I ended …show more content…

That way I could maintain my grades, be able to pay my own expenses on my car and certain school expenses, such as clubs and other activity dues. It was very strange to not have her there on our first Christmas without her. It was only three months after she had left, seeing everyone at our house except for her was very painful. My dad and I, later on that day, ended up crying to each other about how she had to miss it. I hated lying to my friends but I didn’t want any questions asked about it because it was a touchy

Restorative Justice is a theory of justice that emphasizes repairing the harm caused by inappropriate behavior. It began in the criminal system, but this paper looks at how Restorative Justice can be implemented in a K-8 school setting. In school settings, Restorative Justice gives students a model of managing conflict implicitly rather than having conflict managed explicitly for them by adults. It empowers students with the skills needed to solve their own conflicts on their own or in small groups. Having only reached school communities in the United States within recent years, Restorative Justice is helping to strengthen campus communities, decrease scenarios of bullying, and reduce conflicts among students.…

Growing up I had to face a reality that most young children do not. My mother was a drug addict and her drug of choice was heroin. I was aware of her addiction from an early age; events that were commonplace in my home, I look back now as an adult and realize how wrong they were. For instance, it was made out to be a game to sort the seeds out of her marijuana. I remember being very young, possibly five or six and describing what was needed and how to shoot up heroin to my grandparents.…

In reflecting on my life as a whole, from my earliest memories in childhood through to the adult I am today, I believe that nurture as has had the most influence on my life as a whole. I have never been one to simply go with the flow, doing things because someone else does them such as my parents, grandparents, etc. Nor have I done things because I felt it was expected of me due to my heritage. For my life, I go by what is right for me as well as by what is moral as a human being. When I was a young child my parents and I lived in Montana.…
